Which systems does it convert between?

US, EU, UK and foot length in centimetres, with separate charts for men's and women's sizing.

Why do I need to pick men's or women's?

Because they are different scales, not different labels for the same thing. A given foot length maps to a different US number depending on which chart is used, which is why a straight number swap between the two goes wrong. Pick the chart matching the sizing the shoe is sold under.

Why does it show the "closest" size rather than an exact match?

Because the conversions are a lookup table of real size steps, not a continuous formula, and the systems do not line up cleanly. Rather than invent a half size that no manufacturer makes, the tool returns the nearest row that actually exists — and if your measurement sits between two, you are genuinely between sizes.

Why is centimetres the most reliable input?

Because it measures your foot rather than a brand's opinion of your foot. Every other number in the chart is an intermediary. If you can, stand on a sheet of paper, mark heel and longest toe, and measure that — it removes a layer of guessing.

When should I measure my feet?

Later in the day, standing, wearing the socks you intend to use, and measure both feet — most people have one longer than the other, and you fit to the larger one. Feet also change over years, so a size you have "always been" may no longer be true.

Why doesn't the converted size fit in practice?

Because sizing is not standardised across brands. Two shoes marked the same EU size from different makers can differ noticeably, and last shape matters as much as length — a wide foot in a narrow last will feel small regardless of the number. Treat the conversion as where to start, not as a guarantee.

Does it handle width fittings?

No. Width is a separate dimension with its own lettering conventions, and this converter works on length only.
