FAQ
What are the intervals?
Twenty-five minutes of focus, five minutes of short break, fifteen minutes of long break. Those are the classic Pomodoro durations and the ones this timer uses.
When should the long break come?
Traditionally after four focus blocks. The timer gives you the long break as its own phase rather than scheduling it automatically, so you choose when a set has ended — useful when a task runs over or when you start mid-set.
Why 25 minutes specifically?
It is short enough that starting feels cheap and long enough to get somewhere. The precise number is less important than the structure: a fixed block you commit to, followed by a real break. If 25 consistently cuts you off mid-flow, the technique is not sacred — longer blocks with proportionally longer breaks work for many people.
What am I supposed to do if I get interrupted?
The original method treats an interruption as ending the block: note what interrupted you, deal with it or defer it, then restart a fresh block. Trying to pause and resume around every distraction defeats the point, which is to make interruptions visible rather than invisible.
Does the break matter, or can I work through it?
It matters. Skipping breaks turns the technique into an ordinary long work session with extra timers, and the break is what makes the next block sustainable. Standing up and looking at something other than the screen does more than staying seated.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
It runs from the clock rather than counting frames, so background tab throttling does not make it drift. But it is a page in a browser — closing the tab ends it, and there is no notification once you have navigated away.
Is my session history saved?
No. The timer keeps no record and nothing is transmitted; close the page and it is gone.
Can I change the durations?
Not in this timer — the three phases are fixed at the standard lengths. That is a deliberate simplicity, not an oversight: the value of the method is committing to a fixed block rather than negotiating with yourself about its length.
